The Honda Ridgeline is one of the few pickups on the road with a composite bed instead of stamped steel. The bed is fiber-reinforced plastic, designed by Honda to resist denting, rust, and a lot of the wear that affects traditional truck beds.
That changes the bed-liner conversation. On a steel-bed truck, a liner is largely about protecting metal from scratches and corrosion. On a Ridgeline, the composite is already scratch- and rust-resistant. The liner question becomes more nuanced.
Do you actually need a liner on a Ridgeline?
Honest answer: it depends on how you use the truck.
Light hauling only - groceries, occasional Home Depot trips, kids' bikes: the composite bed handles this without a liner. A simple bed mat for cargo grip is more useful than a liner.
Regular working use - landscaping debris, tools, firewood, construction materials: a liner adds real value. Composite resists denting but can scuff from heavy abrasive loads, and a liner makes cleanup easier.
Camper, kayak, or roof-rack-style use - a sprayed-in liner provides extra grip for tie-down points and protects the bed corners from rubbing.
Which liner type for the Ridgeline
Bed mat is the most common Ridgeline owner choice. The composite is already durable; a quality TPE or rubber mat adds cushion and grip without the commitment. Easy to remove and clean. This is what we recommend for most Ridgeline daily-driving owners.
Drop-in plastic liner is over-engineering for the Ridgeline in most cases. The composite bed already does what a drop-in would protect against. Drop-in liners also tend to trap moisture between the liner and the bed, which is not an issue on composite (no rust) but does encourage mold and mildew over time.
Spray-on (urethane) is the right choice for owners who use the Ridgeline as a true work truck. The urethane bonds to the composite bed, adds significant grip, and protects against abrasion from heavy cargo. The trade-off is permanence - once applied, the liner is the liner. For owners who plan to keep the truck long-term and need maximum protection, this is the answer.
Compatibility notes
Honda redesigned the Ridgeline for the 2017 and 2024 model years. Bed dimensions and accessory mount points changed between generations. A drop-in liner or fitted mat made for the previous generation does not fit the new one. Always verify model year compatibility before purchase.
The in-bed trunk (the Ridgeline's signature under-bed storage compartment) needs to remain accessible. Some liner options block the trunk lid entirely; others are designed to work around it. We confirm this on every install.
Install considerations
Spray-on installs on composite beds require slightly different prep than steel beds. The composite surface needs proper cleaning and primer compatible with the substrate. Some liner brands have specific products for composite. Quality shops have these protocols dialed in.
Bed mat installs are straightforward but should sit flat against the bed contours without buckling. Cheap mats that do not match the Ridgeline's specific bed geometry will slide around.
Where Full Tilt fits
Full Tilt installs all three liner styles. For most Ridgeline owners in the Pioneer Valley we recommend a quality bed mat first, with the option to upgrade to a sprayed liner if hauling patterns become more demanding. Send us a few photos and a quick summary of how you use the bed and we will give you an honest recommendation.
