Expert dent removal

Dent removal that restores your factory finish

Parking lot mishaps, hail storms, shopping carts, minor collisions: every car eventually picks up dents that affect appearance and value. At Full Tilt we specialize in professional dent repair that restores your vehicle's smooth, factory finish. Our technicians use both traditional methods and advanced paintless dent repair (PDR) techniques to handle dents of all sizes and types, assessing each situation individually to recommend the most effective approach.

Small, shallow dents with intact paint often respond well to paintless techniques, which preserve your original factory paint and cost less. Creased dents, deeper damage, and anything with paint damage call for conventional repair with filler, sanding, and computerized color matching. We treat a single door ding with the same care we give a classic restoration, and every job is backed by a lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.

What's covered

Every kind of dent, plus the restorations we love

Size, location, depth, and surrounding damage all determine the best repair approach. Here is the range of work that comes through our bay.

  • Paintless dent repair (PDR)

We massage the dented metal back to original shape without disturbing the paint, using specialized tools behind the panel or glue-pulling from the outside. Best for shallow dents with intact paint.

  • Door dings & minor dents

The everyday stuff: dings from adjacent vehicles, shopping carts, and small impacts from balls or debris, repaired so they disappear.

  • Hail damage repair

Hail can pepper a vehicle with dozens of dents. Many qualify for paintless repair because paint often survives even golf-ball-sized hail, preserving the original finish.

  • Creased & deeper dents

Sharp creases and deep damage that resist simple reshaping get traditional repair: metalwork, filler, sanding, and refinishing.

  • Classic & older-vehicle restoration

Panel work, dent and rust repair, and refinishing for classic and older vehicles we are proud to bring back to life.

  • Color-matched refinishing

When a dent needs paint, computerized color matching blends the refinished area seamlessly into the surrounding panels.

How it works

Our dent repair process

Every job starts with honest assessment and follows a disciplined sequence.

  1. Assessment

We examine the damage under proper lighting from multiple angles, checking paint condition and access points. This determines whether PDR or conventional repair is the right call, and gives us accurate time and cost estimates.

  2. Access & reshaping

For PDR we may remove interior panels, lights, or trim to reach the back of the panel, then use rods or glue-pulling to massage the metal back to contour. Conventional repair reshapes the panel with metalwork before any filler goes on.

  3. Filler, prep & paint (conventional)

When metalwork alone cannot restore smoothness, body filler builds the surface up in thin layers, block sanded flat. Computerized color matching and multiple thin coats then blend the repair into adjacent panels.

  4. Quality control

Inspections under varying lighting catch imperfections only visible in specific light. We do not consider any repair complete until it meets our standard, and the work is backed by our lifetime warranty.

Common questions

Dent repair FAQs

What is paintless dent repair and how does it work?

Paintless dent repair (PDR) removes dents without disturbing original paint. Technicians use specialized metal rods to access the back of the panel and carefully massage and reshape the metal back to its original contour, working slowly and feeling the metal's response. Where back-side access is impossible, glue-pulling uses temporary adhesive tabs and calibrated force to draw the metal outward. PDR works because automotive paint has some flexibility, when metal is pushed inward without creasing, paint stretches slightly but doesn't crack. Carefully reshaping the metal lets the paint return with it. Best for shallow to moderate dents in accessible locations with intact paint.

Can all dents be repaired using paintless techniques?

No. Paint condition is the primary factor, any cracks, chips, or breaks in paint disqualify PDR because working the metal will worsen paint damage. Dent location matters because technicians need back-side access; some vehicle designs include structural elements that block tools. Dent severity matters too, sharp creases or deeply stretched metal may not return to original shape without leaving distortion or causing paint to crack. Edge dents along body lines are particularly challenging because the metal is often doubled over or reinforced. Very old dents are sometimes more difficult because the metal has settled into its deformed shape. We evaluate all these factors honestly and recommend conventional repair when PDR won't deliver satisfactory results.

How much does dent repair typically cost?

It varies widely based on method, size, quantity, and location. Paintless repair typically costs less than conventional repair because it requires less time, materials, and labor, a simple door ding is relatively inexpensive, while extensive hail damage covering multiple panels requires substantially more. Conventional repair requiring metalwork, filler, sanding, priming, and painting costs considerably more due to materials, paint-booth time, and labor hours. Aluminum panels cost more than steel because of specialized techniques and equipment. We'll evaluate your damage in person and provide a detailed estimate that outlines the necessary work and costs, no surprises.

Can paintless dent repair work on aluminum panels?

Yes, though aluminum presents different challenges than steel. Aluminum is softer and more malleable, which sounds advantageous but actually complicates repairs, the metal stretches more easily during impact, potentially making it harder to return to original shape without distortion. Aluminum also work-hardens more readily, becoming stiffer as it's manipulated, requiring different techniques and touch. Many modern vehicles use aluminum hoods, doors, and panels for weight savings. Our technicians trained in aluminum PDR understand these differences and adjust accordingly. When PDR isn't appropriate for aluminum damage, conventional methods follow aluminum-specific procedures with specialized welding, aluminum-compatible fillers, and proper primers.

How long does dent repair take?

Simple PDR for a single small dent might be done in one to three hours. Multiple dents or extensive hail damage can extend PDR to a full day or longer. Conventional repairs take considerably longer because of curing time between steps, body filler must cure before sanding, primer needs drying time before paint, paint requires proper curing before normal handling. Even a single-panel conventional repair typically requires at least a few days. Complex multi-panel repairs can take a week or more. Parts availability can extend timelines further if replacement panels are needed. We give realistic time estimates rather than promising fast turnaround we can't deliver.

Will the repaired area be noticeable after PDR?

Quality PDR on appropriate damage should be virtually undetectable. Because the original factory paint is preserved and the metal returns to its original contour, there's nothing visible when the repair is complete, no paint matching concerns, no blend lines, no texture differences. However, very large or deep dents may not be completely eliminated, potentially leaving slight shadows or distortion under certain lighting. Technicians remove as much as possible, often ninety-five to ninety-eight percent, but the last few percent might remain visible to critical observers. Existing paint damage (chips, scratches) in the area remains after PDR because the technique only addresses the dent itself. We set realistic expectations before starting.

Can dent repair fix creased or sharp dents?

Creased dents are challenging for any method. Light creases sometimes respond to specialized PDR techniques, though complete elimination is unlikely and some evidence of the crease may remain visible. Sharp, deep creases typically can't be adequately addressed with PDR because working the metal enough to remove the crease will likely crack the paint, and even if paint survives, the metal may be permanently deformed beyond returning completely smooth. Conventional repair handles creases more effectively but requires painting. Metalworking (heating, hammering, pulling) addresses the crease, body filler smooths any remaining irregularities, and the panel is refinished. For severe creases, replacement panels sometimes give better results than working badly damaged metal.

Does insurance cover paintless dent repair?

Yes, with the same rules as conventional repair. Collision coverage typically pays for dents from accidents. Comprehensive coverage handles dents from hail, vandalism, falling tree branches, or shopping carts. Your deductible applies regardless of method. Many insurers actually prefer PDR when appropriate because it costs less than conventional methods, reducing their payout while still restoring your vehicle properly, some specifically seek PDR specialists for hail claims. We work with every major brand, document damage thoroughly, provide detailed estimates, and communicate with adjusters.

Can hail damage be completely repaired?

Often yes, but it depends on impact severity. Many hail dents can be completely removed with PDR because hailstones often create relatively shallow, rounded depressions without breaking paint. Large hailstones (golf-ball-sized or larger) create deeper, more severe dents that may exceed PDR capability and require conventional methods. Multiple overlapping impacts compound damage severity. Paint damage from hail eliminates PDR for affected areas, while paint often survives even significant hail impacts, extreme storms can crack or chip paint, especially at edges or body lines. Dense damage covering entire panels with dozens or hundreds of dents requires extensive time. Severely damaged hoods or roof panels sometimes justify replacement rather than extensive repair.

Should I repair small dents or just live with them?

A few things to weigh. Vehicle value: dents reduce resale value, so if you plan to sell or trade soon, repair improves your return. Lease vehicles: lease-end inspections assess damage and dents may trigger excess wear charges, repairing before turn-in often saves money. Personal satisfaction: some people don't mind minor imperfections while others find them bothersome. Time matters because fresh dents are often easier to fix than old ones, paint remains more flexible and metal hasn't settled. Cost-wise, combining several dents into one service visit is often more economical than separate visits. We're happy to evaluate minor dents and give you a cost estimate so you can decide based on priorities and plans.
